Where it all started
College Music was founded in the UK in 2014 by Luke Pritchard and Jonny Laxton as a YouTube channel, sharing underground and undiscovered music. What began as an innocent after-school hobby has over time turned into something far, far bigger. Initially, the YouTube page was a home for alternative electronic, RnB and Neo-Soul, showcasing some of the pairs favourite musical finds.
While still at school (College equivalent in the US), they began experimenting with the then brand new live streaming feature, and in 2016, they were among the very first channels on the platform to begin a 24/7 lo-fi hip-hop stream (in fact, that same livestream is still running to this day, over five years later!). Since then, College Music have become one of the better known names within the lo-fi hip-hop community, having launched their label ‘College Music Records’ in 2017.
Over the years, the label grew to be home to over seven hundred tracks, regularly releasing a variety of beat-tapes, vocal lo-fi and more. During that time they have also released a number of vinyl albums, as well as three ‘College Music Presents’ compilations, available as double LP gatefold vinyls.
